The poem 35\10 by Sharon Olds is a narrative poem. we realize from its title that the speaker is comparing between two ages. Sadly, she wonders why does one's leaving mean the other's coming and in this case, her daughter's becoming a woman, a grown up, and her becoming an old lady with a folded neck that is nothing like the sharpening hips of her daughter. Also I think she Began to be afraid of death and she Wishes that she is In the place of her daughter. When she comes to the end of her life her daughter's will replace her. We can see that by focusing on the words she used to describe her daughter such as "while silken, flower…", and how she described herself by using words like"gray, silver and dry pitting". These words could imagery of the same image that the mother saw in the mirror to showed us the huge differences between two of them. Then, she is realization that the young girl in the beginning of her life.At the end , the mother know that is the story of replacement.
